The Mouse in the Hat on the Milky Way

When Grandma came to visit us,
I saw a little mouse
creep up behind her rocking chair
at the old Camp House.
I didn’t want to frighten Gran
so I told her not about
the harmless, little creature–
then I heard Grandma shout.
Four tiny feet ran fast one way,
Grandma ran another–
the mouse hid in a denim hat
belonging to my mother.
Then Grandma flew out to the porch
and found an old straw broom.
She quickly swept the mouse and hat
clear out of that front room.
Right up into the Milky Way,
he went like one swift breeze.
And now he lives up in the sky
where he thrives on Milky Way cheese.
