Christmas Gift for Gran

a shop at Mt. View -1Too Late

The Christmas I was barely eight,
I found a plate
at Privitt’s Store
I wanted more
than anything to buy for Gran.
I soon began
to count my cash,
then like a flash,
I flew to get the present, when,
in walked Miss Jenn
who picked the prize
before my eyes.

Christmas in the post-War United States

Two Short Poems

A Pig Kissing Contest?

 A pig kissing contest? Absurd!
Whoever heard
of such disgrace?
I will not try to kiss his face.
Forget the dough.
I will not go
to kiss a Poland China mug.
I am too smug.
Oh, dear! Oh, me!
It is beneath my dignity
to do a jig
and kiss a pig.

Fiddlehead Frittata

Fiddlehead Frittata

No Like Frittata

I ate a bite of fiddlehead
on baked brown bread
with goat white cheese–
it made me sneeze.
First time I’d tasted this new dish
and now I wish
I never had.
I feel too bad.
Down South cafes don’t serve the  stuff–
it is too tough
for goodness sakes!
My tummy aches!
