Autumn skies are dripping gray.
The leaves are bleeding brown.
Green-hulled black walnuts are dropping
like heaps of hail hammering down.
Red squirrels are packing nuts
for winter days ahead.
As for me, I just turned up
the thermostat to my waterbed.

still waiting for winter here in KY…60’s and even 70’s …for a few days…Better watch posting this…we’ll be blasted by cold and snow!
Still warm, here, too. Arkansas had snow in the northwest yesterday.

Your poem is snappy. I like it. And, of course I love your photos.
I like the combination of your pictures and poetry, Freeda.
Thank you so much, Dorothy.
Great rhythm. We used to have a waterbed and when it wasn’t warm enough, I’d freeze to death.
I never had a watered, but one of my kids had one.
Diane, did you hear the joke about the couple with a waterbed who got a divorce? Yes, they just drifted apart. (not my joke, but it is one I’ve heard. 🙂 )
