Autumn Preparation

Autumn skies are dripping gray.
The leaves are bleeding brown.
Green-hulled black walnuts are dropping
like heaps of hail hammering down.

Red squirrels are packing nuts
for winter days ahead.
As for me, I just turned up
the thermostat to my waterbed.

  1. still waiting for winter here in KY…60’s and even 70’s …for a few days…Better watch posting this…we’ll be blasted by cold and snow!

  2. Your poem is snappy. I like it. And, of course I love your photos.

  3. I like the combination of your pictures and poetry, Freeda.

Great rhythm. We used to have a waterbed and when it wasn’t warm enough, I’d freeze to death.
