Autumn Preparation

Autumn Preparation

Autumn skies are dripping gray.
The leaves are bleeding brown.
Green-hulled black walnuts are dropping
like heaps of hail hammering down.

Red squirrels are packing nuts
for winter days ahead.
As for me, I just turned up
the thermostat to my waterbed.

Cute. We pulled out the down comforter. Do you collect any of the black walnuts?

    • No. I did once, just for fun. I picked out the nuts to make my Karo Nut Pie for Thanksgiving. That took a while, it was fun and the pie was delicious! The family thought the experiment was cool. A few years ago, there was demand for black walnut shells to be used as crafts. We gave the walnuts to a man who picked them up for his son to sell for that purpose.

Nice poem, Freeda. I’ve added a blanket!

It is getting quite chilly here and will be turning on the heat before long. Like the poem
