My hummingbird is back. And the corkscrew willow is new to our yard. My husband planted it this spring. And it leans a little and had to be supported in the winds. So Husband put part of a towel around a branch with a string attached and tied it to the fence. Hummingbird arrived and although there’s a hanging feeder for him, he was attracted to the towel in the willow. He must have thought it was a flower because he flew straight for it, nearly bumping into it.
Oops!
But then he tried to taste it. Didn’t work, but he kept trying. Poor baby! I really think I must talk to Husband about this. What do you think?

Planted a 6 foot weeping willow last month. I remember reading a poem some time ago about an old man planting a tree knowing full well he’ll never live to see its shade. I understand it now. I think you have to be old to understand both yourself and the poem.

Thanks, Carl.I like weeping willows but they need lots of space. My husband shortened the life of our willow. It leaned every which way and began to lose limbs until it was straggly . So we no longer have that willow nor the towel bandage!Hummingbirds still come visit.

Ours are back, too. One is very selfish and keeps driving the other away. Your pictures are wonderful. He’ll eventually get hungry enough to go find the feeder, I bet!

Not sure how to solve the problem. The tree was a gift our daughter brought from Kansas. (further story behind it) I think the little bird will find the right feeder next time he’s here.
