    Have I heard it’s a way for them to clean their wings from oils…Maybe I’m confused with that…but, it was somewhere in my brain!

    • Thanks. I think the dust does remove oils and moisture and helps cool the birds from the heat. Maybe also helps get rid of parasites. Have only seen it happen twice this summer. The other bird was a brown thrasher. That was a show and I didn’t have my camera with me. 🙂
