Camouflaged Targets

Soldiers prepare for Expert Infantry Badge and...

Flashes of orange . . .
a black night and grains
of sand coating sweaty hands
clenching cold,
green metal — hard steel,
dead-aimed at targets
selected by someone
other than camouflaged soldiers
who murmur prayers
that war
might be exchanged
for peace.

  1. Very thought (and emotion) provoking Freeda. I hope you had a good 4th of July.

    • Thanks, Inger, and yes, my 4th of July was good. Our children and their families were with us on the weekend prior to the 4th for our annual get-together. So, for the 4th, had only one daughter still with us, and of course, our son and family next door, who are with us often. We had a good, relaxing day. I hope your 4th of July was also good. It’s quieter here today without our offspring. 🙂

That is the way of war. Wish all our troops were safe at home.
