No Reason to Rush

Ole Jerse

Milk Cows

Ole Jerse gave
down her milk–
a warm, white stream
in the lard bucket,
as Mama’s hands
pressed gently,
unhurriedly,
in a world that
had no reason to rush.

No reason to rush
nor to worry
in the Ozarks of long ago
with time only to tell
and to listen
to stories of real life
told by real people
in the Ozarks of long ago.

  1. So long ago, this memory was made. My grandchildren might find the experience hard to believe.

I love this! It really creates a mood that can be almost physically felt!
